How to get a server, and what comes with it.

There are no plans to pick yet. We give hosting to a workspace directly, and you take it from there in the panel.

Hosted on Squab

Sign in to the panel once so you have an account, then ask us on Discord. A Squab admin sets up a workspace for your group and gives it hosting. Anyone in it with permission can create servers; the panel places each one on a machine with enough room.

Public checkout is not available yet. Nothing is charged while hosting is handed out this way.

Server tools
Overview with live usage, console, files, configuration, schedules and power controls.
Backups and snapshots
Three backups per server, pinnable. Live snapshots on Minecraft Paper, kept for 7 days. Every one downloads as a .tar file.
Your group
Workspace invitations, Viewer/Operator/Manager roles per server and an activity log.
A public address
Players connect to play.squab.dev on a port assigned when the server is created.

Limits worth knowing now

Better here than in a support thread later.

  • Backups and snapshots are stored on the machine that runs your server. Download what you can’t afford to lose.
  • File uploads are up to 100 MB each, and files can only be changed while the server is stopped. There is no SFTP.
  • Game traffic goes through one gateway without failover. Your server sees the gateway’s address instead of the player’s.
  • No uptime guarantee and no DDoS protection.
  • Only our own game images. Custom images and mod installers are not available.
  • Discord is for talking to us. There is no bot integration yet.
Coming later

Your own machine

Install Wing, our agent, on a Linux VM you run, and manage its servers from the same panel. Squab won’t charge for this. Your provider’s bill stays between you and them.

Machines you connect are private to your workspace and never host anyone else’s servers. If Squab can’t be reached, your games keep running. As the VM’s owner you can always get to your files directly.
